How to Convert HEIC Photos in Bulk

Converting one HEIC photo is easy. Converting an entire holiday — 300 photos copied from an iPhone — calls for a batch workflow. Here are the best options for each platform.

Option 1: In your browser (any computer)

The HEIC file converter is built for batches:

1. Open the folder with your photos and select all files (Ctrl+A / ⌘A).
2. Drag the selection onto the converter. Non-HEIC files (such as Live Photo videos) are detected and skipped.
3. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP and press Convert.
4. Click Download all (ZIP).

Everything is processed locally, so there's no upload time and your photos stay private. Desktop computers convert several photos in parallel.

Option 2: Mac — Preview or Finder

• Finder: select the files, right-click, choose Quick Actions → Convert Image, pick JPEG.
• Preview: open all files, select every thumbnail in the sidebar, then File → Export Selected Images and choose JPEG under Options.

Option 3: Windows — prevent it next time

Windows has no built-in batch converter for HEIC. For photos already on the PC, use Option 1. For future imports, set Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic on the iPhone: iOS will hand over JPGs when you import over USB.

Option 4: Command line (macOS and Linux)

On macOS, sips is built in:

Keeping things organised

• File names: good converters keep the original names (IMG_1234.HEIC → IMG_1234.jpg). HEIC.IS numbers duplicate names inside the ZIP automatically.
• Dates: keep metadata so the capture date travels with the photo; photo apps sort by it.
• Location: remove GPS data before sharing a batch publicly.
